Operating in 155 countries, the Art of Living Foundation (AOLF) is a non-profit, educational and humanitarian organisation, working in a consultative status with the United Nations’ Economic and Social Council.
Founded in 1981, the Art of Living Foundation offers highly effective educational and self-development programs and tools that eliminate stress and foster deep and profound inner peace, happiness and well-being.
The organisation’s diverse community attracts people from all walks of life, backgrounds and religious orientations.
Their need
The organisation needed an experienced linguist with strong skills in Yoga and Indian philosophy.
The project included 14 training modules for future Yoga teachers. It consisted in reviewing some modules that had already been translated and to translate the ones that needed to be translated. The whole had to be processed consistently.
The project manager wanted me to manage the files, sorting the ones that needed a translation from the ones that needed a review. She had created a tracking file shared on Google Drive that I filled in during the progress of the project. The delivery folder had also been indicated on Google Drive.
My solution
During my mission with Sri Sri School of Yoga, I used my knowledge about the organisation. Indeed, I had previously attended some trainings with them: SKY (to learn Sudarshan Kriya technique) and a silent retreat in their ashram. I also used previous skills I learnt in another Yoga center and literature that I quote as a Translator’s note.
Of course, I used the tracking file that the project manager had provided. I took the initiative to add a colour code to differentiate the content to translate from the content to review. I also added columns and tabs for specific questions. Thanks to this process, we did not get lost. There were many files and it helped to have a quick overview of the progress.
As planned in the quote, I checked the consistency between the French and the English for the texts that had already been translated. I suggested a new translation to offer clear and quality content.
As always, I applied a strict quality assessment process, using Antidote among other techniques.
The results
Sri Sri School of Yoga will be able to sell this online training to French speaking students who want to become Yoga teachers.
